Soap Recipes
TherapyGarden™ Facial Clay Soap
Ingredients:
1 lb | TherapyGarden™ Ultra-Clear Unscented Melt-and-Pour Glycerine Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |
1 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Kaolin Clay |
2 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Golden Jojoba Oil |
¼ cup | Distilled Water |
Optional:
½ fl oz | Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil |
Colorant |
Method:
Melt your soap base in a microwave-safe measuring cup. Place the clay in a separate dish, spooning in a small amount of the melted soap to mix it into a paste, then add it back to the soap base. This eliminates clumping.
Add the jojoba oil, water and color and gently stir, blending thoroughly. When slightly cooled, add fragrances/essential oils.
When the mixture begins to thicken, pour into soap molds and spray lightly with rubbing alcohol. This takes care of any bubbles.
Let cool and gently de-mold on to a waxed paper surface. After de-molding, cover with waxed paper and a kitchen towel. Let your soap sit undisturbed for 24 hours.
Wrap with plastic/cling wrap and store away from direct sunlight.
Note: The amount/types of oils and scents used is a personal preference. Have fun and experiment until you have created your own personal favorite.
TherapyGarden™ Shea Butter Goat's Milk Soap
Ingredients:
1 lb | TherapyGarden™ Ultra-White Unscented Melt-and-Pour Glycerine Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |
1 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Spray-Dried Goat's Milk Powder |
1 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Ultra-Refined Shea Butter |
1 tsp | TherapyGarden™ Palm Stearic Acid |
1 oz | Essential Oil |
Optional:
Colorant | |
Ground oatmeal, loofah, tea leaves, dried botanicals, poppy seeds, etc. |
Method:
Reconstitute goat's milk powder by gradually combining it with lukewarm water. Begin by making a paste, mixing a small amount of warm water with the powder. Continue mixing and adding the remaining warm water until the desired quantity and consistency is achieved.
Melt the essential oils.
If you are adding botanicals, keep stirring gently to keep the soap form skinning over and keep the botanicals suspended. When the mixture begins to thicken, pour into soap molds and spray lightly with rubbing alcohol.
Let cool and gently de-mold on to a waxed paper surface. After de-molding, cover with waxed paper and a kitchen towel. Let your soap sit undisturbed for 24 hours.
Wrap with plastic/cling wrap and store away from direct sunlight.
TherapyGarden™ Merry Berry Holiday Hand Soap
Yields 4 very festive 4-ounce bars...great smelling and beautifully speckled with a natural exfoliant. These make stunning guest soaps and are also perfect for the gardener on your Christmas gift list!
Ingredients:
1 lb | TherapyGarden™ Ultra-Clear Unscented Melt-and-Pour Glycerin Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |
1 oz (4 Tbl) | Cranberry Seeds |
20+ drops | Red Liquid Dye Soap Colorant |
¼ fl oz | Bayberry Fragrance Oil* (Our all-time favorite holiday fragrance!) |
Method:
Melt the soap base in a microwave-safe, glass measuring cup.
When completely melted, add the colorant a few drops at a time until you like the shade. Add the fragrance oil.
Begin to stir in the seeds. They will tend to float to the top and form a thin layer. Pouring the mixture now will result in most of the exfoliant being on one side of the soap. If you prefer the seeds more evenly distributed, continue to stir them into the soap until the mixture begins to thicken. Pour into molds as late as possible -- just before it becomes too thick to pour.

Ingredients:
1 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Gel Whole Leaf |
½ tsp | TherapyGarden™ Arrowroot Powder |
4 oz | TherapyGarden™ Melt & Pour Premium Goat's Milk Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |
2 oz | TherapyGarden™ Melt & Pour Silky Shea Butter Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |

¼ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Calendula Flower Extract |
¼ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Lavender Essential Oil (or EO of your choice) |
One | Decorative 8-10 oz mug (Dollar Store, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Wal-Mart) |
Method:
Pre-measure your ingredients and have them ready. You'll want to work fast so that the soap base doesn't skin over before you're ready to pour.
Mix the Aloe Vera Gel and Arrowroot Powder together. Blend well.
Melt the Goat's Milk and Shea Butter soap bases together in a microwave-safe glass measuring cup (Pyrex).
Add the Kaolin Clay to the melted soap base and whisk until thoroughly blended.
Add the Aloe Vera Gel/Arrowroot Powder mixture, Calendula Extract and Essential Oil.
Blend thoroughly and immediately pour into mug(s) or molds and spritz with rubbing alcohol.
Packaging idea: Tie a shaving brush to the cup handle with raffia or a luxurious satin cord (depending on the cup design) and shrink wrap for a professional finish.

TherapyGarden™ Orange Mango Gardener's Soap
Formulated to give hard-working hands what they need and deserve.
Ingredients:
½ lb | TherapyGarden™ Melt & Pour Premium Goat's Milk Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |
½ lb | TherapyGarden™ Melt & Pour Silky Shea Butter Soap Base (cut into 2-inch cubes) |
1 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Mango Butter |
¼ c (2 fl oz) | TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Juice 99.8 percent |
1 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Bentonite Clay |
2 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Apricot Kernel Meal |
¼ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Sweet Orange Essential Oil |
Method:
Carefully cut your soap base into small cubes and gently melt it in a microwave-safe measuring cup.
Immediately add the mango butter, stirring until the butter has melted and blended into the base, then stir in the aloe vera juice.
Place the clay in a separate dish, spooning in a small amount (about 1/4 cup) of the melted soap to mix it into a paste. Once the clay is thoroughly blended, add this mixture to the larger batch of melted soap base. This technique eliminates clumping.
Begin stirring in the apricot kernel meal, and keep stirring until the soap base begins to thicken slightly. This will help suspend the apricot kernel meal throughout the soap rather than sinking to the bottom of your mold.
Blend in the essential oil before the mixture gets too thick. Adding EO to the soap base at the coolest possible temperature will help keep the scent strong, but don't wait too long or your soap will begin to skin over.
Pour into molds and allow to cool thoroughly.
Once cooled and demolded, melt-and-pour glycerine soap should be wrapped in cling wrap or shrink wrapped. Store in a cool dark location, like a closet or drawer, until ready to use.
Lotion Recipes
TherapyGarden™ Quick-and-Easy Hand & Body Lotion
Ingredients:
2 c | Distilled Water |
¼ c | TherapyGarden™ Sweet Almond Oil |
.33 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Lotion-Making Concentrate |
30 drops | Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil |
Preservative (e.g., Liquapar Optima) |
Method:
In a 4-cup, microwave-safe measuring cup, heat the distilled water until warm to the touch -- not too hot.
In a separate, smaller container, measure out the Sweet Almond Oil (or a combination of your favorite oils) and heat in the microwave until warm to the touch -- not too hot.
Add the Liquapar Optima to the oil(s) and mix well. Make sure that the oil is just warm to the touch -- not too hot. Liquapar should not be subjected to high heat. Add Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil and mix well.
Pour the TherapyGarden™ Lotion-Making Concentrate into the oil(s) and mix on medium speed with a hand mixer until well blended.
Slowly add the oil-polymer mixture to the distilled water while continuing to mix on medium speed. The mixture will go through a brief 'cottage cheese' stage then begin to smooth. Pour into containers and label.
Makes about 16 oz. More water makes a thinner formula. The amount of scent used is a personal choice. Experiment and have fun!
TherapyGarden™ Multibase Starter Recipe
A very light lotion recipe that's fun and easy to experiment with. Try different water-to-base ratios and achieve almost any consistency your heart desires!
Ingredients:
2 oz (by weight) | Multibase Concentrate |
½ fl oz (1½ tsp) | TherapyGarden™ Grapeseed Oil (or other oil of your choice) |
8 fl oz | Warm distilled water (170°F) |
(up to) 1/8 fl oz | Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil |
Method:
Using a whisk, thoroughly blend the Multibase with the Grapeseed Oil and Fragrance/Essential Oil. For larger batches, use an electric hand mixer on a low speed setting.
Then add the warm water a little at a time, mixing until all ingredients are completely blended to a smooth consistency. When all ingredients are thoroughly blended, pour into an 8oz container.
The mixture will thicken as it cools. To avoid trapping condensation, do not cap until the mixture has cooled completely.
TherapyGarden™ Winter Wonder Body Butter Pats
A wonderful winter moisturizer for those places that need a little extra help -- elbows, ankles, eye, neck and lip/mouth areas.

Pour into small molds or directly into tins and cool in the refrigerator. If not using tins, release butter pats from mold and place in zip lock bags, then package in organza bags. Store in a cool place.
Use pats like a lotion bar or, if prepared in tins, use like a balm.

TherapyGarden™ Silky Goat's Milk Lotion
All new and improved recipe!
Ingredients:
1 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Spray-Dried Goat's Milk Powder |
2 fl oz | Distilled water, lukewarm |
4 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Juice 99.8 percent |
2 oz (by wt) | Multibase Concentrate |
1/8 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Lavender Essential Oil (or EO of your choice) |
½ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Meadowfoam Seed Oil |
¼ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Calendula Flower Extract |
Preservative (e.g., Liquapar Optima) |
Method:
Reconstitute the goat's milk powder by gradually combining it with the distilled water. Begin by making a paste, mixing a small amount of warm water with the powder. Continue mixing and adding the remaining warm water until the desired quantity and consistency is achieved.
Using an electric hand mixer on low speed, thoroughly blend the Multibase, meadowfoam seed oil and lavender oil together.
Heat the aloe vera juice in a microwave-safe measuring cup to approximately 180°F. Stir in the reconstituted goat's milk, then add the calendula flower extract and blend well.
Begin mixing the warm liquid into the Multibase-and-oil mixture, a little at a time, until all ingredients are combined. Add the Liquapar Optima and blend thoroughly.
When all ingredients are blended, pour into an 8-ounce container. The mixture will thicken as it cools. To avoid condensation, do not cap container until the mixture has cooled completely.
If you prefer a thicker lotion, use more Multibase. If you prefer it thinner, use a little more distilled water or aloe vera juice.
TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera & Calendula Dry Skin Lotion
A light, moisturizing, summer-skin lotion you'll use all over...all year long!

TherapyGarden™ Lotion Bar
Lotion bars create a moisture barrier that helps heal dry, cracked skin and keep it soft and smooth. They're a big help where you need it most--elbows, knees, feet and hands. Keep one next to the kitchen sink--you'll be glad you did!
This is a versatile starter recipe that firms up nicely, making it ideal for pouring into a variety of containers. We like the deodorant/lotion bar tubes, but you can also form it into shapes by pouring into decorative soap molds, then packaging your lotion bars in metal tins for both storage and presentation.
Ingredients:
2 oz (by wt) | TherapyGarden™ Beeswax Pastilles |
1 oz (by wt) | TherapyGarden™ Ultra-Refined Shea Butter |
1 oz (by wt) | TherapyGarden™ Cocoa Butter (Deodorized) |
2 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Grapeseed Oil (or oil of your choice) |
3 | Lotion Bar/Deodorant Tubes 1.8oz |
30-60 drops | Fragrance Oil (if desired) |
Method:
Place the shea butter and cocoa butter in a heat-safe, glass measuring cup (Pyrex type) with a good pouring spout.
Microwave on 50% power for about one minute at a time until ingredients are melted. Be CAREFUL! The glass will be very hot!
Stir in the grapeseed oil, then the beeswax pastilles. Microwave at 50% power until the wax is completely melted.
Combine the ingredients thoroughly as soon as they're all melted. If you're using fragrance oil, add a few drops at a time to the mixture, blending well until the intensity is to your liking.
Immediately pour the mixture into the bottom of your lotion bar containers. If it cools too quickly (i.e., before you're finished filling), gently reheat the remainder and continue. Allow containers to cool completely, then label.
Yields three 1.8-ounce lotion bars.

Bath Bomb Recipes
TherapyGarden™ Basic Bath Bombs
Bath bombs are fun, and the variations you can create are almost limitless once you know the basics.
This recipe starts you off right with techniques for achieving consistent results, learning how the various ingredients work together, and avoiding common mistakes and pitfalls.
You'll be a bath bomb wiz in no time!
Ingredients:
½ c | TherapyGarden™ Citric Acid |
½ c | TherapyGarden™ Cornstarch Silky Smooth |
1 c | Baking soda (grocery store) |
½ tsp | Borax (grocery store) |
2½ Tbl (1¼ fl oz) | TherapyGarden™ Grapeseed Oil or TherapyGarden™ Sweet Almond Oil |
¾ Tbl | Distilled water |
½ tsp | Fragrance Oil (of your choice) |
1 drop | Liquid Dye Soap Colorant (of your choice) |
4 | 2¼-inch round Bath Bomb Molds |
Small spray bottle filled with witch hazel (drugstore) |
Method:
Sift and combine all dry ingredients in a glass or stainless steel bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the wet ingredients. Blend each mixture well.
Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients using a whisk--and, if necessary, your hands--to blend thoroughly. As soon as the mixture holds together when squeezed in your hand (Think of damp sand for sandcastles...) it's ready to be packed into molds.
It's time to work fast now--don't let the mixture dry out too much. If it does dry out, you can work a little more oil into the mixture (Not too much--you don't want soggy bath bombs).
Be sure to pack the mixture very tightly into clean, dry, ungreased molds. If using the two-part round molds, pack each side of the mold, adding a little more of the mixture to one half, then push the two halves together hard. The overfill is important, as it provides the 'glue' and helps to ensure a tightly packed mold.
The idea is to demold the bombs as soon as they'll release from the molds without crumbling. This can mean waiting up to several hours before demolding, depending on your climate. Experiment and do what works best for you.
Gently remove one half of the mold, then the other. Resist the temptation to twist, as this will often result in two half-bombs! You may need to tap your mold gently to release the bomb, but do be gentle.
Once demolded, lay the bath bombs out on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet, at least one inch apart so that they get plenty of air circulation.
Mist the bath bombs lightly with witch hazel and let them set overnight, then turn them and lightly spray the other side. Allow your finished bath bombs to dry for another 24 hours.
Tips for Making Bath Bombs:
Avoid making bath bombs in a humid environment! Humidity introduces a host of challenges that can negatively impact your success rate.
Best results are achieved using simple shapes for your molds, e.g., without corners that can break off. You can use candy molds, soap molds, two-part, round plastic bath bomb molds or flexible molds.
Be sure to pack the bath bomb mixture tightly into the molds.
The right amount of witch hazel sprayed on bath bombs forms a crust that helps keep them from cracking. But remember they're still fragile and should be handled with care. Too much witch hazel can trigger the citric acid-baking soda reaction, making bath bombs fizz prematurely!
Don't throw away leftovers. Put them in a zip lock bag and add to them every time you make bath bombs. When you have enough leftovers to make another batch, just add a little more oil until you like the texture. No wasted materials!
We recommend shrink-wrapping bath bombs once they're completey dry (generally 3-5 days) to keep humidity at bay.
Yields approximately four bath bombs, using our 2¼-inch round Bath Bomb Molds.

Bath Melt Recipes
TherapyGarden™ Chocolate Raspberry Bath Melts
Gorgeous, all-natural cocoa butter with the added benefits of soothing oatmeal. Perfect for dry, cracked or irritated skin. Truly a nourishing, moisturizing skin treatment. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 oz (4 Tbl) | TherapyGarden™ Cocoa Butter (grated) |
1 oz (2 Tbl) | TherapyGarden™ Citric Acid |
3 Tbl | Oatmeal, finely ground |
15 drops | Chocolate Raspberry Fragrance Oil |
2 oz (4 Tbl) | Baking soda |
Method:
Grind oatmeal until fluffy, then thoroughly mix the oatmeal, baking soda and citric acid together.
In a separate, microwave-safe glass container, gently melt cocoa butter on the 50% setting on your microwave.
Add Fragrance Oil to the melted cocoa butter and stir well.
Add the dry ingredients to the cocoa butter mixture, blending thoroughly, and pour into into ice cube trays. Place in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.
When completely solid, store in a cool location (refrigerate if you like) in plastic bags or a Tupperware-type container until ready to use.
To use, add one or two cubes to a hot bath when the tub is nearly full. The cubes will "fizz" slightly, releasing the oils and fragrance into your bath. If you like more fragrance, add it directly to the bath water after the cube has melted.
Also terrific as a hand or foot soak to help with dry, rough cuticles and callouses.
Note: Use care while getting in and out of the tub--it will be slippery. Clean tub thoroughly after use, as you would when using any bath oil product.
TherapyGarden™ Bubble Bath Bars
Make this high-end boutique item yourself and save a bundle! Great for gift baskets...no container cost because it's a bar! Gentle enough (and fun) for kids.
Ingredients:
1 c (8 oz) | TherapyGarden™ Bubble Booster SLSA |
⅓ c (1⅔ oz) | TherapyGarden™ Cornstarch Silky Smooth |
⅓ c (2⅔ fl oz) | TherapyGarden™ Vegetable Glycerin |
1 c | Baking soda |
Soap molds |
Optional:
a few drops | Liquid Dye Soap Colorant (to your liking) |
½ fl oz | Fragrance Oil (of your choice) |
Method:
Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and add the fragrance (about 60 drops, a few drops at a time) to your liking. Blend well.
Add the colorant a few drops at a time. Don't overdo it--you just want a tint. Blend thoroughly.
Begin adding the vegetable glycerin a little at a time--using only enough so that the mixture holds together in your hand like stiff cookie dough--reserving any remaining glycerin to work into the mixture if it becomes too dry.
Press the mixture into soap molds, let the bars rest for about two hours, then check for firmness.
When the bars are firm enough to handle, demold and place them on waxed paper. Allow to dry overnight or until hard, then store them in an airtight container or plastic wrap until ready to use.
To use, crumble one bar under running bath water for a tub full of luxurious bubbles!
Makes 4-5 bars (depending on the size of the molds you use).

Yields about 1 cup (8 oz by volume), and can be doubled, tripled, etc.
TherapyGarden™ Solid Perfume
A super convenient way to freshen your fragrance day or evening or while traveling. Also a nice addition to gift baskets.
Ingredients:
1 fl oz | High Oleic Safflower Oil |
1 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Coconut Oil 92° (melted) |
1 oz | TherapyGarden™ Beeswax Pastilles |
½ fl oz | Fragrance Oil |
Method:
Heat the Safflower Oil and the Coconut Oil 92 in the microwave (30 seconds at a time at 50% power) until very warm and completely melted.
BE CAREFUL when heating oils--the glass also gets quite hot!
Add the beeswax into the oils and heat (30 seconds at a time at 50% power) until melted and mix well.
Just before pouring into containers, add the fragrance oil and stir. Pour into small tins or lip balm tubes. In the tubes, you will see a little shrinkage as it cools--just top it off.
Allow to cool before putting lids on. You may put the containers in the freezer to accelerate cooling.
Be sure to label as a solid perfume to avoid confusion with lip or other balms!
Yield: Makes enough solid perfume to fill 24+ .15oz (lip balm) tubes.
Facial Recipes
TherapyGarden™ Sea Kelp & Clay Mud Mask
A mineral-rich facial mask or body wrap (this recipe can be made in larger batches for body wraps). Soothes, energizes, helps tone and moisturize skin and smooth fine lines.
Kelp Powder is said to increase blood circulation, draw out toxins and stimulate new cell growth while softening and healing the skin. An added benefit is it's natural, gentle exfoliating properties.
For centuries, Aloe Vera has been known for its amazing healing properties. It penetrates deep into the skin to aid a variety of skin conditions including eczema, acne, insect bites and burns.
Ingredients:
¼ c (2 oz) | TherapyGarden™ Kaolin Clay or TherapyGarden™ Bentonite Clay |
⅛ c (1 oz) | TherapyGarden™ Atlantic Sea Kelp Powder |
¾ c | TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Juice 99.8 percent |
Method:
Blend the dry ingredients together thoroughly in a large open vessel.
Add Aloe Vera Juice, a little at a time, until the mixture is a paste-like consistency (or to your liking). A small whisk or hand mixer works well.
Instructions: Apply to face and neck and allow to dry completely. Rinse with warm water. Wait at least one hour before applying any other moisturizers or cosmetics.
Yield: More than enough for 1-2 face/neck applications.
Note: Kelp powder has a very distinct and natural "ocean" aroma, so we haven't recommended a fragrance. This is a personal choice -- you may add a few drops of a compatible essential oil or fragrance oil if desired.
Tip: To make a larger quantity and store for later use, mix the dry ingredients together and store in a tightly capped glass jar. Then, when ready to use, just scoop out the amount you need and add the Aloe Vera Juice!
TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Clay Spa Mask
Ingredients:
3 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Bentonite Clay |
3 Tbl | TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Juice 99.8 percent |
1 fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Vegetable Glycerin |
5 drops | TherapyGarden™ Lavender Essential Oil (or EO of your choice) |
Method:
Combine the aloe vera juice and glycerin.
Blend the clay in gradually, mixing well. The result should be a smooth, creamy paste. [TIP: A hand mixer is helpful when making a large batch.]
Add the essential oil and blend well.
If your mask is too dry, add a bit more aloe vera juice. If it seems too thin, you may thicken it by adding more clay -- it's your choice.
Instructions: Apply clay mask to the face and neck and allow to dry for about 10 minutes to draw impurities from the skin. Follow with a thorough, warm-water rinse. Note: If not for immediate use, a preservative should be added.
TherapyGarden™ Hydrating Facial Mask/Scrub
Great for all skin types, but especially beneficial to dry or irritated skin.
Ingredients:
1 tsp | TherapyGarden™ Honey Powder |
1 tsp | TherapyGarden™ Kaolin Clay |
1 tsp | TherapyGarden™ Spray-Dried Goat's Milk Powder |
1 tsp | Oatmeal, finely ground |
1½ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Aloe Vera Juice 99.8 percent |
½ fl oz | TherapyGarden™ Calendula Flower Extract |
Method:
Combine all dry ingredients.
Add the Calendula Flower Extract followed by the Aloe Vera Juice, a little at a time until you like the consistency. Blend well.
If not for immediate use, combine and store the dry ingredients in a zip lock bag or food storage container with a tight-fitting lid. Then just add the liquids when ready to use.
Allow the mixture to rest for 3-5 minutes to ensure that all liquid ingredients have been absorbed. Add more Aloe Vera Juice if it becomes too thick.
Apply to face and neck and allow to dry, then rinse well with warm water.
To use as a scrub, apply gently in a circular motion and rinse with warm water.
